Warehouses and Shipping

Orca Book Publishers is pleased to offer a range of warehouse services in Canada and the United States. Below you will find information on the services our warehouses offer. Please use our Shipping Request Form to request warehouse services.



Inventory Requests and Deliveries

Our inventory is monitored regularly, and standard stock requests are placed at the beginning of each month. Orca aims to have at least three months' worth of stock and will reach out to publishers immediately if any special requests or orders come in with specific time frames.

Delivery Instructions

  • Each carton should be clearly labeled with the book title, ISBN and carton quantity. Do not place shipping labels over carton information.
  • If a pallet shipment, please ensure a packing slip is clearly visible on the outside of the pallet.
  • If individual boxes, please mark "1 of X" (each box is assigned its own number and X would be replaced by the total number of boxes) and ensure a packing slip is clearly visible or noted on a box.
  • Ensure pallets are securely wrapped with multiple layers of shink wrap so pallets arrive intact.
  • Individual box weight not to exceed 40 lbs; pallet height not to exceed 5 ft. No double-stacked pallets.
  • All customs and freight charges are the responsibility of the publisher or its distributor.

Publishers will be billed back for any shipments that do not adhere to these instructions.

Advance notice: Notification of shipment with BOL and/or packing slip must be emailed to naomi@orcabook.com and kathy@orcabook.com when the shipment leaves your warehouse.
Offloading instructions: This facility is ground-level access only; there is no loading dock. Orca has a forklift on the premises.

Basic Warehouse Labor

Fees:

  • Basic labor: $30 per hour



Stickering

Stickering services are available at both Orca's Canadian and US warehouses. For large-quantity stickering requests, please allow ample time for invoicing and completion. The fees below include labor. If labels need to be created, the Publisher will be charged the cost of printing. Publishers may also send labels to Orca for application. 

Stickering fees are charged per unit at a minimum of $50. Orca reserves the right to adjust pricing based on higher costs and the complexity of the work.

Fees per project:

  • 1–40 books: $12
  • 41–120 books: $25
  • 121+ books: $0.30 per book




Promotional Copies

Promotional copies include promos, review copies or investor mailings, such as Kickstarter campaigns. Printed materials to be included with a shipment need to be sent to our Victoria office to the attention of Lisa Shaw. Orca reserves the right to adjust pricing based on shipping cost increases.

Fees:

  • 1–10 copies: $5 + shipping
  • 11–50 copies: $10 + shipping
  • 51+ copies: $20 + shipping
