Robert Soulières
To date, Robert Soulières has written 60 albums or short novels, 19 novels for teenagers and 24 short stories. Eight of his books have won awards, including Casse-tête chinois (1985), which won the Canada Council Children's Novel Prize, and Le visiteur du soir (1980), which won the Prix Alvine-Bélisle. Un cadavre de classe won the 1998 Mr. Christie Book Award (12+ category), while Une gardienne pour Étienne (illustrations by Anne Villeneuve, published by Les 400 coups) won the following year. L'Homme aux oiseaux received an honorable mention from the International Board of Books for Young People (IBBY) upon publication. The Association des auteurs de la Montérégie has awarded him its Prix pour la jeunesse three times, for Un cadavre stupéfiant (2003, Soulières éditeur), L'abécédaire des anibêtes (2010, aux Heures bleues) and Le premier jour (2011, éditions Les 400 coups). He was a finalist for the Prix des Libraires (2016) with his poetry collection Hier, tu m'aimais encore. In the spring of 2021, he received the Prix Claude-Aubry, awarded by IBBY Canada, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Quebec children's literature for over 30 years, and the Prix Fleury-Mesplet in 2018. The Association des écrivains québécois pour la jeunesse and Communication-Jeunesse made him an honorary member. Robert Soulières continues to divide his time between book fairs and writing.
