Production Editor

Orca Book Publishers is a successful independent Canadian children's book publisher. With 1000 active titles in print and digital formats and 100 new titles a year, we have a growing and successful publishing program. We are looking for a professional, motivated person to join our creative team. Working with the Production and Editorial Department and also with Marketing, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accuracy and final details of all books as they are prepared for print. This full-time position is based in Victoria, BC.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Checking changes on typeset manuscripts
  • Proofing ARCs, reprints, ebook and audio book files
  • Photo research: working with design to source images for nonfiction books and later securing permission
  • Proofreading of ads, flyers and other marketing copy
  • Proofreading various trade and educational catalogues, participating in the glow and scheduling, tracking changes for data
  • Attending production meetings and preparing materials for meetings


  • Keen interest and experience in the Canadian children's book publishing industry;
  • Knowledge of editorial processes and ability to work on many projects at once;
  • Experience in proofreading, attention to detail, critical thinking;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Adobe Acrobat and other general office software;
  • Ability to work independently with excellent time management skills;
  • Ability to work with a team and contribute to a supportive environment;
  • Candidate must be highly efficient and organized; must enjoy working with people and other animals in an office environment.
